Enhancing Working Condition and Patient Safety: Best Practices October 17-18, 2000, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The Enhancing Working Condition and Patient Safety Conference will discuss practical approaches to simultaneously improving the quality of patient care and working conditions for healthcare workers. Conference participants will share Best Practices, describing both the difficulties encountered and practical examples of success that can be replicated by others. Best Practices include programs, policies, or procedures that reduce illness and injuries and/or improve well-being among patients as well as among healthcare workers.

The format of the conference will be a working meeting, with common themes concerning organizational culture and safety presented as plenary topics, and working group sessions organized by focus interest areas. Participants will provide information about interventions that impact both healthcare worker working conditions and the quality of patient care, and that have been systematically evaluated by their institutions. The conference is sponsored by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Veteran's Administration, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and National Center for Infectious Diseases.
