WALTHAM, Mass. -- Salary.com, Inc. announces the results of the Fall 2006 Healthcare Compensation Survey. The survey covers a broad spectrum of healthcare positions and reports employee pay data for 130 key jobs, including many positions not typically found in other healthcare surveys.
This survey was conducted at the request of our healthcare clients who were having trouble finding compensation market data for certain positions, said Joseph Kilmartin, director of surveys at Salary.com. The Fall 2006 Healthcare Compensation Survey provides many healthcare-specific types of compensation, such as per diem rates and shift differentials.
The following chart includes a representative sampling of jobs from the survey and the corresponding median annual salary:
Medical Director, $227,822
Certified Nurse Anesthetist, $133,519
Nursing Director, $108,274

This survey report will be a very useful tool for healthcare employers that are seeking pay data on specialty nurses, health value analysts and other emerging positions in the healthcare field, explained Kilmartin. Many organizations are becoming increasingly concerned about being able to provide competitive compensation in these fast-growing areas. This survey gives them the information to help them track wage rates and adjust accordingly.
More than 160 organizations provided information for almost 500 locations representing over 209,000 employees at some of the nations largest and most well-known health care institutions. Nearly 80 percent of survey participants reported being not-for-profit, with a majority of those organizations being not-for-profit secular. Approximately 12 percent of participants indicated they were for profit, while the remaining 10 percent were government institutions. Participants represent a broad range of organization types, from very large healthcare systems to relatively small homecare agencies. The hospitals and healthcare systems represented in the survey range in size from 70 to 22,260 employees, with an average size of 2,853 employees.
