Service Employees Fight to Ban Unsafe Medical Needles

Lakewood, NJ-- Medi-Hut Co., Inc., one of the few medical supply companies to manufacture a one-handed, passive anti-stick safety syringe, commends the members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the largest health care workers union, for their push to immediately ban unsafe medical needles.

The union petitioned the Food and Drug Administration last week claiming the federal legislation that was signed by President Clinton on November 4 will take too long to start protecting the nation's healthcare workers. SEIU wants to see immediate action. The members would like to see all blood-drawing devices that lack safety mechanisms banned.

Joseph A. Sanpietro, President of Medi-Hut Co., Inc. commented, "We are very proud to offer an affordable solution to this serious needlestick epidemic. With hundreds of thousands of accidental needlesticks occurring every year, it is of utmost importance to provide medical facilities with the safest devices possible. We expect our Elite Safety Syringes to be shipped into the U.S. next week."
