Proper Storage for Sterile Supplies

Question: How does one properly store sterile supplies for the OR?

Response: According to the current standard,  items must be stored in a humidity controlled environment,covered in plastic or in a cabinet with doors or in storage devices that do not allow dust to settle. Proper air exchange is needed as well (10 per hour). They must be no more than 12 inches from the floor and no more than 18 inches from the ceiling. Coragated or cardboard boxes are not allowed to be used in an OR as storage containers for sterile supplies. Supplies should not be stored in high traffic areas or in areas where outside traffic is common. A minimum quantity of sterile supply should be kept in OR rooms--being sensitive to precaution cases such as MRSA or VRE.
