This year's International Infection Prevention Week (Oct. 16-21) is also the 25th anniversary of this annual event designed to raise global awareness of the criticality of infection prevention and control efforts. In celebration, ICT is inviting infection preventionists from all aspects of healthcare to participate in an essay project. Whether it's an essay, a poem, a mnemonic, or whatever form you use to communicate, we want to collect them for a special slide show presentation that will be available from ICT in time for IIPW in October.

Tell us what you love about being an infection preventionist. Or share why your work is so important to patient safety. Or explain what you believe are the biggest challenges for the profession and how to address them. Those are just a few of the many topics you could address in your submission. Please include with your submission your name, title, employer, city/state, and a digital photo of yourself if possible. Send your submission to me at kpyrek@vpico.com/. The deadline to participate is Friday, Sept. 30, 2011.

I hope you'll help us create a memorable salute to your profession!
