Although it is a work of fiction, the new film "Contagion" captures the essence of the immense damage that can be inflicted on the world by a truly global outbreak. It's good to see the CDC's disease detectives get a nod of recognition from Hollywood, a place that doesn't always seek the truth when portraying issues related to infectious disease and public health.

There's been a lot of dialogue about whether the scenario depicted in "Contagion" could really happen, and I encourage you to visit the CDC Foundation's website which does a nice job of reflecting on these issues.

Do you believe that a "Contagion"-like situation could occur in real life? Do you think we're prepared? I invite you to submit your online comments.
