Nancy Chobin, RN, AAS, ACSP, CSPDM has been the AVP, Sterile Processing Services at Barnabas Health System in New Jersey since 1990 and provides direction and guidance to all the SPD managers in six hospitals and two surgery centers. She is president and CEO of Sterile Processing University, LLC, an online SPD education and continuing education website, as well as founder of the Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution, Inc., retiring from the poisition of executive director in December 2013. She is certified as a Sterile Processing & Distribution Technician (CSPDT); Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist (CIS), Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor CFER)and Certified in Sterile Processing Management (CSPDM), and is a member of AORN, AAMI, SGNA and IAHCSMM.
Sue Klacik, BS, CRCST, CIS, FCS, has managed healthcare central services for over 30 years. She became certified as a CRCST in 1982 then became an instructor in 1985. She has served as the International Association of Hospital Central Service Management (IAHCSMM) representative to Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), from 1997 to present, participating on several key standards such as ETO, Containment Devices, Steam Sterilizer, and more importantly, the ST79 Recommended Practice Comprehensive Guide to Steam Sterilization and Sterility Assurance in Health Care Facilities. Sue is currently the co-chair of the Process Challenge Device (PCD) committee. Additionally, she has authored four chapters in the sixth edition of the CRCST text book and the Steam Sterilization chapter of the seventh CRCST edition and was a contributing author in the 2010 IAHCSMM Leadership Manual. She is on the CRCST Self-Study Advisory Board and is the author of the Communiqué column "Inside Washington". She has lectured on sterilization topics for more than 10 years and she participated in the multi-society immediate-use steam sterilization position paper in 2010.
Cynthia Spry, RN, MSN, MA, CNOR, is an independent clinical consultant with 30 years of perioperative nursing experience. Most recently she retired from Advanced Sterilization Products, a Johnson & Johnson Company, where she was an international clinical consultant focusing on sterilization and disinfection. She is a past national president of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN). Cynthia is the co-chair of the AAMI committee responsible for ST 79 Comprehensive Guide to Steam Sterilization and Sterility Assurance. She has published extensively on sterilization, disinfection and related infection control, and is the current author of OR Manager’s quarterly column on sterilization. Cynthia holds both Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) and CSIT (surgical instrument processor) certifications.
