Basic Training Course for Infection Preventionists is Offered

ICP Associates, Inc. will present the 23rd annual Basic Training for Surveillance, Prevention and Control of Healthcare-Associated Infections conference July 20-22, 2011 at the Crowne Plaza Perimeter NW in Atlanta. This three-day course is designed to give new infection preventionists everything they need to get started in infection prevention. They will gain knowledge of all the major issues in infection prevention from an experienced and knowledgable faculty, imparted through real-life examples, interactive exercises and discussion.

At the completion of the program, attendees will be able to:

- Develop a system for surveillance of healthcare-associated infections

- State the components of transmission-based isolation precautions, as published in CDC's Guideline for Isolation in Healthcare Facilities

- Present surveillance data using rates, ratios, and other statistical methods

- Describe basic principles of sterilization, disinfection and antisepsis

- State several of the major microorganisms which are common causes of disease in many healthcare facilities, their modes of transmission and prevention methods

- Prepare a facility-wide emergency preparedness and response plan for events such as an influenza pandemic or a bioterrorism event

- Develop a comprehensive plan for surveillance specific to either an acute care or a non-acute care facility

- Prepare an employee health program using the current OSHA requirements

- State the steps used in an outbreak investigation

- State the major site-specific infections and how to prevent transmission of these infections
