Initiatives in Three States Show Progress Toward Reducing C. difficile Infections

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is reporting on the work of three collaboratives that has been successful in reducing Clostridium difficile infections.

Illinois hospitals collaborated  to reduce Clostridium difficile infections 15 percent to 26 percent; one strategy included engaging environmental service workers.

Massachusetts CDI Prevention Collaborative reduced Clostridium difficile infections 25 percent by empowering frontline hospital staff on multidisciplinary teams.
 
New Yorks Clostridium difficile Collaborative saves millions in hospital costs using an evidence-based infection prevention bundle and standardized environmental cleaning protocols.
