STERIS Corp. Signs Exclusive Distribution Agreement With Censis Technologies Inc.

MENTOR, Ohio -- STERIS Corporation announces the finalization of an exclusive distribution agreement with Censis Technologies, developer of the Censitrac® Surgical Instrument Tracking and Management tool. The agreement will allow STERIS and Censis to develop a flexible portfolio of instrument tracking options using a highly advanced, customer-friendly platform.

Studies conducted independently by both companies recently identified a number of customer concerns related to surgical instrument inventories, such as lost and missing surgical instruments, too many unused instruments in trays, and inconsistent preventive instrument maintenance. Facilities also identified a need to provide easily updatable instrument tray assembly training as new surgical kits are developed for new or improved surgical procedures. A reliable, easy-to-use instrument tracking technology would help to ameliorate these types of problems.

We selected Censis after conducting an in-depth analysis of instrument tracking providers, said Mike Duckett, director of strategic initiatives for STERIS Corporation. Censis offers a superior Web-based platform that will be very easy for our customers to use. The technology is easy to implement and to update. Healthcare systems will be entitled to the latest upgrades as part of their subscription, which addresses concerns about obsolescence. In addition, after working with Censis since 2004, we have observed that customers have a high level of satisfaction with their technology and support.

The Censitrac technology will become part of an advanced portfolio of surgical asset management products and services for hospitals and healthcare systems to be jointly developed through this agreement. The offering is expected to include a range of flexible, scalable options and technologies for sterilization process management and improved performance reporting. Overall, the distribution agreement will allow both companies to add value to their relationships with healthcare customers.

Randy Smith, president of Censis Technologies, Inc., comments, The integration of Censitrac technology and STERIS products provides an end-to-end solution to STERIS and Censis customers. Through this agreement, customers will have the ability to more effectively manage the entire sterilization process, resulting in significant benefits. In addition, information needed to continuously improve the process will be much more comprehensive and readily available.

This is a natural pairing of capabilities, says Charles Immel, senior vice president and group president of the STERIS Healthcare Group. STERISs respected sterilization and decontamination solutions, including SterilTek process improvement consulting, help health systems optimize overall sterile processing and surgical productivity. The Censis technologies will enhance our customers ability to standardize their improved processes and effectively manage their surgical assets.
