Coloplast Launches Education Program to Train, Empower and Develop Core Competencies for the Caregiver

ATLANTA -- After years of focus on the development of skin health best practices for acute and long-term care healthcare organizations, Coloplast has now launched an award-winning, accredited modular educational program titled Skin: the Vital Organ. This program is designed to train, empower and develop specific Skin Health Competencies essential for all levels of caregivers to providing a framework for employing best practices in preventive skin care.

Skin: the Vital Organ has been selected by APEX (Award for Publication Excellence) as a 2006 award recipient in the category of Education, Training & Electronic Publications. The Coloplast education program is recognized for excellence in key areas such as editorial content, graphic design and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence! Skin: the Vital Organ modular education program, was developed by the Coloplast Education Committee, in conjunction with the University of Miamis Department of Dermatology and industry experts who are well known in the field of skin and wound care.

The modular education program was created based upon the concept of developing Skin Health Competencies, providing prevention strategies and outlining an intervention framework for healthcare personnel who work with patients with a variety of skin health issues, commented Valerie Johnson, Coloplast product manager. Johnson continued, Each accredited module consists of three levels of instruction, including levels for the certified nursing assistant, registered nurse or licensed practical/vocational nurse, and the advance practice nurse, and provide an understanding of structure and function of the skin, caring for, maintaining and restoring skin health, mapping the appropriate plan of care as well as the provision of comprehensive tools for proper documentation of skin conditions.

Skin: the Vital Organ modular education program consists of Module I: Xerosis, Module II: Incontinence, and Module III: Bariatric Skin Care; Module IV: Skin & Wound Pain will be released later this year.

Coloplast is very excited to offer these programs as part of our comprehensive preventive skin care program, stated Randy Schwartz, director of marketing.  The education and the accompanying tools will become standards of care within any healthcare setting.
