Revisions Eliminate Need for New NPSGs for 2011

The Joint Commission has amended National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG) 7, specifically NPSG.07.03.01, Element of Performance 3, to further clarify its goals and standards. It is part of overall revisions to the NPSGs that eliminate the need to release new guidelines for 2011, according to the Joint Commission. The revisions are effective immediately.

In NPSG.07.03.01, Element of Performance 3: "Prevention" was added in the EP so that it now reads: "Educate patients, and their families as needed, who are infected or colonized with a multidrug-resistant organism about healthcare-associated infection prevention strategies."
