New Purell Alcohol Hand Sanitizer Leads in Performance, Sustainability

Purell® Green Certified Instant Hand Sanitizer exemplifies GOJO Industries' leadership in developing an effective alcohol hand sanitizer that contributes to customers' sustainability initiatives.

Development was driven by performance and sustainability objectives realized when Purell Green Certified Instant Hand Sanitizer became the world's first alcohol hand sanitizer to achieve EcoLogo certification. EcoLogo certification acknowledges the product meets Instant Hand Sanitizer Antiseptic Products standard (CCD-170) for environmental leadership.

The product is designed to kill 99.99 percent of most common germs that may cause illness, and its formula and packaging set standards for sustainable hand hygiene products. Purell Green Certified uses a 70 percent alcohol formula for superior efficacy in compliance with international fire codes and contains natural skin-conditioning glycerin that leaves hands soft and refreshed. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Green Building Council recommend alcohol-based hand sanitizers for health and hygiene.

"Purell Green Certified Instant Hand Sanitizer uses 100 percent naturally renewable, plant-derived ethanol in a biodegradable formula," says Nicole Koharik, GOJO global sustainability senior marketing manager. "Companies pursuing aggressive sustainability objectives find this EcoLogo-certified product is an effective alcohol hand sanitizer that helps them promote the well-being of people and the environment."

Featuring GOJO SMARTFLEX technology, refills are made of recyclable PET using 30 percent less plastic than a standard rigid HDPE bottle. This source reduction approach is considered optimal sustainable packaging strategy.

The new Purell product is part of the complete green certified GOJO hand hygiene portfolio.
