Wise Foundation Announces WoCoVA Scholarship Winners

The Wise Foundation announced it has awarded two scholarships for vascular access professionals to attend the 2012 World Congress for Vascular Access (WoCoVA).

The two scholarship winners are Jennifer McCord, MSN, RN, PCCN, CCRN, CCNS, VA-BC and Sheila Hale, RN, CRNI, VA-BC. The grants were made possible by a $5,000 donation from RyMed Technologies, Inc., which develops and markets innovative safety products in the field of intravenous catheter care and maintenance.

These scholarships are very much in line with our mission to advance the field of vascular access by supporting related education and research, says Denise Macklin, BSN, RNC, president of the foundation's board of trustees. Jennifer and Sheila are outstanding professionals and vascular access leaders
who will represent AVA and the Wise Foundation very well.

Jennifer McCord is clinical nurse specialist for critical care and vascular access for the TriHealth hospital system in Cincinnati, Ohio. As TriHealth's sole vascular access expert, she created the system's vascular access team. She also
consults on vascular access with other providers in her region. Sheila Hale is senior PICC RN for the Seton Family of Hospitals, the largest provider of healthcare services in central Texas. She is a key member of Seton's bloodstream infection prevention team and president of the Central Texas Vascular Access Network, a regional network of the Association for Vascular Access (AVA).

Both McCord and Hale will be submitting scholarly articles to peer-reviewed
journals based on their experience at WoCoVA.

"The vision of the Wise Foundation is 'saving lives through risk-free
vascular access,' " says Dana Ryan, RyMed president/CEO. RyMed Technologies shares a similar vision, through a mission of commitment to improving patient outcomes by providing innovative product solutions aimed at intraluminal catheter-related bloodstream infection prevention and intraluminal thrombotic catheter occlusion reduction. It is only natural that these two organizations team up to provide an educational opportunity that will impact the healthcare provided by two vascular access professionals. RyMed Technologies is proud to be a partner in improving patient care and outcomes by sending these two individuals to WoCoVA."

The WoCoVA 2nd World Congress will be held June 27-29, 2012 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The Wise Foundation is a 501(c)3 educational and research foundation that
supports AVA's mission by offering research grants and educational scholarships to further the development of evidence-based, vascular access care. The foundation is named for Marcia Wise, AVA's former president, executive director, journal editor and conference chair.
