U.S. Medical Device Industry Faces Tough Challenges, Study Says

The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) is reporting on a new study, "The U.S. Medical Device Industry in 2012: Challenges at Home and Abroad," by Yair Holtzman, director of global life sciences at the consulting firm WTP Advisors in White Plains, N.Y. 
 
The study, which analyzes the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities of the medical device industry, notes, The U.S. medical device industryknown for producing life-saving innovations and creating millions of jobs across the countryis facing unprecedented challenges that could prove catastrophic not only to the industry itself and to the livelihoods of its employees, but to the health of the patients who benefit every day from its technologies.

The study appeared in the online edition of the biomedical publication MDDI (Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry) on July 17.
