3M Health Care and Materials Management Microsystems today announced the launch of 3M™ Attest™ Monitoring Interface for SPM® Software, designed to provide connectivity between Microsystems’ SPM®  Sterile Processing Information System and the 3M Attest 290 and 290G Auto-readers.  This connectivity provides hospitals more streamlined data collection, documentation and reporting capabilities as results from the 3M Attest Rapid Readout biological indictor (BI) tests download directly into Microsystems’ software application.

Through this offering, Microsystems provides a new module to its existing software application that includes enhanced sterilization monitoring documentation capabilities and instant access to real-time results.  Sterile processing clients will enjoy greater accuracy and simplicity in the documentation process as more information moves electronically to reside in a single, convenient location.

“We are thrilled to have an opportunity to improve the efficiency of the sterile processing department (SPD) by offering instant access to 3M Attest Rapid Readout biological indicator results and real-time documentation of those results,” said Tammy Torbert, 3M Sterilization Assurance marketing manager for 3M Health Care.  “As scrutiny toward hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) continues to increase, the electronic documentation of critical sterilization monitoring results will allow the SPD to demonstrate sound quality control processes.”

Donna McLaughlin, sterile processing manager at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, a facility in Knoxville, Tenn. that recently served as a test site for the new Microsystems/3M offering, affirms the importance of quality control processes in her line of work: “We are in the business of providing excellent patient care and that level of care is synonymous with patient safety.  My department supports patient safety initiatives by sterilizing surgical instruments, and it is imperative that we have the highest level of monitoring controls in place to do that.  Having the 3M Attest Monitoring Interface for SPM Software helps us manage every load monitoring more efficiently; we run a BI in every steam load, and the interface gives us real-time results with less potential for human error.”

“The 3M Attest Monitoring Interface for SPM Software represents a significant advancement in our efforts to combine essential information from multiple sources,” said Clay Cannady, Microsystems’ head of sales, marketing and business development.    “The integration of our companies’ proven, data-driven solutions arms sterilization professionals with the critical information they need when assessing sterility for surgical procedures.”

The 3M Attest Monitoring Interface for SPM Software is now available. 3M and Microsystems are collaborating on the sales and marketing of this new offering; as such, customers can learn more about this product from their 3M or Microsystems sales representative. Facilities may also contact Microsystems at (262) 240-9900, Option 4, or send an email to sales@mmmicrosystems.com.
