APIC is reporting today that the Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) on July 23 recommended changes to the CDC's Interim Guidance for Infection Control for Care of Patients with Confirmed or Suspected Novel Influenza A (H1N1) Virus Infection in a Healthcare Setting. APIC says it is pleased that the Influenza A (H1N1) Working Group recommendations are consistent with an APIC-endorsed position paper. The guidance development process will continue with a CDC meeting with labor organizations and an Institute of Medicine (IOM) expert panel on personal protective equipment for healthcare personnel. APIC is reporting that the process is expected to be finalized by Oct. 1, 2009. To access a summary of the HICPAC recommendations, CLICK HERE.
