The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) will host the webinar, "What's That Sign? Signs and Symbols for Sterile Processing," to be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. ET.

All the multiple signs and symbols on medical device labels can be very confusing, and their abundance can often cause them to be ignored.  Confusing or not, these characters, icons, or symbols on devices, packaging, or in the associated documentation of medical devices convey extremely important information on the safe and effective use of each item. This webinar will address some of the most common signs and symbols used in sterile processing and will offer resources healthcare professionals can use to learn about the different signs and symbols.

In this presentation, speaker Rose E. Seavey, MBA, BS, RN, CNOR, CRCST, CSPDT, president/CEO of Seavey Healthcare Consulting LLC, will discuss the rationale behind labeling signs and symbols and give meaning to some of the most commonly used symbols in the sterile processing department.

The program will explain the need for multiple signs and symbols in medical device labeling; describe the meaning behind symbols found on medical device packaging, instruments, and equipment; and list resources available that help identify the requirements and definition for commonly used symbols.

Instruction is targeted to any department in hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, or clinics that produce sterile products for their patients.

The cost of the webinar is $79 per registration for AAMI members and $99 per registration for non-members. For questions or to register, call 1-800-373-3174.
