The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated the Interim Infection Prevention and Control Recommendations for Hospitalized Patients with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV). The updated guidance added new information on:
• The duration that infection control precautions should be followed
• Management of ill healthcare workers
• Considerations for patient visitors
• Aerosol-generating procedures
• Hand hygiene

APIC and CDC are teaming up to provide a free webinar on infection control considerations for MERS-CoV on May 28, 2014 at 1 p.m. ET. Dr. Michael Bell, deputy director of the CDC’s Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, will review infection prevention and preparedness strategies to help facilities know what to look for and what to do to protect healthcare providers and patients in their facilities.
