Pathogens Missing from US Army Lab

HARTFORD, Conn-A report from a 1992 Army inquiry show specimens of anthrax, the Ebola virus, and other pathogens, were listed as missing after an audit of supplies. The report also suggests someone entered a lab at a biological warfare research center in Fort Detrick, MD and was conducting unauthorized research.

Officials disagree about the importance of the finding, stating that it is unknown whether the pathogens could have been dangerous. The pathogens had been killed to prepare them for an intended study.

They were reported missing in February 1992.
