NPSF to Hold Annual Patient Safety Congress

The National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF), the nations leading voice for patient safety, will host the 2011 Patient Safety Congress May 25-27 at Washington, D.C.s Gaylord National Hotel & Convention Center. Now in its 13th year, the gathering is a cornerstone of the Foundations educational activities and the only conference whose sole focus is sharing the latest best practices and tools for delivering safe patient care. This is an opportunity to learn from and exchange ideas with patient safety experts and practitioners from around the globe at the only conference with a singular focus on patient safety

Healthcare executives, patient safety professionals, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, risk management and quality leaders, medical students, researchers, patient safety advocates, patients, and all those committed to safe care are encouraged to attend. The theme of this years Congress, Cultivating Patient Safety- Its In Our Hands: Sharing Accountability and Responsibility, emphasizes the importance of collaboration at all levels of the health care system to prevent adverse events and promote safe care practices.

In addition to more than 30 concurrent sessions, the program will present unique plenary events including:

- The Music Paradigm, featuring the National Symphony Orchestra, which will employ the powerful metaphor of a music ensemble to illustrate the complexities and nuances of dynamic organizations. Conductor Roger Nierenberg will address the critical issues of accountability and responsibility and how these challenges impact health care;

- The Lucian Leape Institute Town Hall, where distinguished Institute members and invited health care experts and thought leaders will share their thoughts on solutions that will bring about meaningful improvement in patient care;

- Healthcare Simulation Live on Stage, an interactive demonstration designed to teach critical patient safety practices using proven simulation techniques
