This report addresses the role mobile medical equipment may play in the transmission of disease-causing pathogens as well as the challenges related to cleaning and disinfection of these "orphan objects."
Objects such as IV stands, wheelchairs, blood pressure cuffs and more which are shared among patients may not be cleaned and disinfected as frequently and as thoroughly as they should be. This report reviews findings from the literature, summarizes some simple best practices for cleaning protocols, and recommends a system for monitoring cleaning and disinfection efforts.
