AAMI University Offers Webinar on Best Practices in Ultrasound Reprocessing

AAMI University is offering the webinar, "Best Practices in Ultrasound Reprocessing," on April 1, 2015 at 1 p.m. ET. Ultrasound probe disinfection practices are constantly evolving. This webinar will discuss the latest ‘hot buttons’ of high-level disinfection of ultrasound probes, disinfection methods for various probes (TEE, endovaginal/endorectal, external), how to select a high-level disinfectant, the steps to high-level disinfect ultrasound transducers, and time and cost saving strategies. Learn how to stay compliant and adhere to the regulations related to probes and high-level disinfectants. Learn how to keep safe during the disinfection process (vapor control, spill kits, etc.), and how to safely dispose of used high-level disinfectants after reprocessing. You will also be briefed on the Spaulding Classification System (critical, semi-critical and noncritical instruments) and provided with a step-by-step process for disinfection, from precleaning, disinfection, vapor control, neutralization, to storage.

The speakers are Orla Concannon of Concannon Consulting, LLC, and Kathy Willard of PCI Medical.

After attending this webinar, participants will be able to: Apply proper ultrasound probe disinfection techniques; employ appropriate disinfection methods for various probes; and review the ultrasound probe disinfection regulatory guidelines to ensure compliancy.

Instruction is targeted to any area in hospitals to include Sterile Processing departments, office based surgery or ambulatory health centers (clinics) that produce sterile products for their patients, OR managers and directors, SPD managers, surgical technologists, diagnostic medical sonographers, ultrasound technologists, central service staff members, perioperative nurses, and infection prevention nurses.

This program has been approved for 1.0 contact hour by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. (CBSPD) and the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM).
