Eyeing New Opportunities, AAMI Reorganizes Staff

With healthcare technology itself growing and evolving, the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) is undergoing a staff reorganization to better meet the changing needs of its members and customers.

Our plans for the future are ambitious, says AAMI president Mary Logan. To better position AAMI to move forward, we have to rethink how we used our staff resources and where.

As part of the restructuring, Steve Campbell, formerly the chief marketing and communications officer, has become the chief operating officer, with the areas of communications, marketing, membership, operations, and healthcare technology management reporting to him. In this position, he will coordinate AAMIs priorities, programs, and messaging and help sharpen the organizations marketing to promote all of its programs effectively.

With Campbells promotion, Sean Loughlin has assumed the role of senior director of communications, serving as head of the department. He had held the position of director of publications. This change comes as AAMI produces more publications and other resources to help members and shed light on issues that matter to the healthcare technology community.

In addition, the Government Programs and Education Departments have merged, with Deborah Reuter serving as senior vice president of a single Education Department.  She will focus initially on ensuring the now unified departments develop a cohesive approach to all educational programs that meet the needs of AAMIs members and customers. To help with this transition, Emilee Hughes, formerly director of distance learning, will serve as senior director of training programs, a newly created position.

Finally, Dawn Rowe has become the director of newly created Operations Department, transitioning from director of membership and customer services. Her department will perform several functions, including the processing of membership renewals and handling customer service.

AAMIs plans for the coming years include the launch of AAMI University, the creation of a fresh new look and feel for the Annual Conference & Expo, a sharper focus on marketing, a variety of patient safety initiatives, and the development of additional programs and resources for healthcare technology management professionals in the field.

As a result of the reorganization, AAMI anticipates making additional hires in the near future.

Its nice for a small organization like AAMI to have room for staffers to grow professionally, Logan says.
