Using UV-C Light in Outbreak Situations

Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) is a 1,000-bed organization with campuses in Allentown and Bethlehem, Pa. The company adopted Lumalier’s TRU-D Smart UVC system – a portable disinfection unit that uses narrowband UV-C light to kill pathogens. LVHN deployed its first TRU-D units in 2008, and the healthcare system now has seven units. Recently, Infection Control Today spoke with Terry Burger, MBA, BSN, RN, NE-BC, CIC, director of infection control and prevention at LVHN. She shares her experience with the TRU-D system.
