The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) will provide more educational programs online to help hospitals and manufacturers who face tighter travel budgets.
The association will offer additional eLearning programs in 2012, which are accessed on the Internet in an easy and interactive format. The association also has a full plate of webinars in the coming year.
As our members face rapidly growing and changing healthcare technologies, AAMI is keeping pace with their rapidly growing and changing educational needs, says Leah Lough, AAMI executive vice president. Our members cant always wait to get the answers or to find the most updated information, so distance learning is a way to help them stay in touch and learn now vs. later.
AAMI unveiled its first eLearning program earlier this year called Preparing for Accreditation, and it is designed to help sterile processing departments prepare for onsite surveys from accreditation organizations such as The Joint Commission. Future programs will focus on human factors, IEC 60601, flexible endoscope reprocessing, and planning for a successful succession.
Any Internet browser with a Flash plug-in can view the 90-minute program, and it can be stopped and started at any time.
While this new distance learning tool doesnt necessarily replace face-to-face or classroom learning, Lough said it does allow individuals or groups to sometimes learn at their own pace about a hot topic or solution to a problem.
