LONDON-Lawrence Kinet has been appointed executive director of Smiths Industries plc and will replace George M. Kennedy CBE as head of Smiths Industries Medical Systems when Kennedy retires on August 4, 2000. Kinet earned his BSc at the University of Birmingham, UK, in 1968 and his MBA from the University of Chicago in 1970. From 1973-1988, Kinet held various positions at Baxter International Inc. concluding his career there as Corporate VP & President, World Trade Group. Subsequently he joined The Kensington Group as Managing Partner from 1989-1991 and from 1991-1994 he was the Chairman & CEO of Oculon Corporation. Most recently, Kinet held the position of Chairman, President & CEO of Aksys Ltd from 1994-1999. A US citizen, Kinet will relocate to Smiths Industries headquarters in London.
