3M Sterilization Assurance announced today the availability in the United States of the 3M™ Comply™ 6600 Emulating Indicator for pack monitoring for sterilization departments. With the addition of its Class 6 steam emulating indicator, 3M adds to its expansive portfolio of pack monitoring solutions.
“As an industry leader in sterilization products, 3M offers customers the products and services to help sterilization departments worldwide choose the best product for their particular application. The 3M™ Comply™ 6600 Steam Emulating Indicator is the newest component in the line of Comply Chemical Indicator offerings,” said Andrew Flaherty, global marketing manager for 3M Sterilization Assurance. “The Comply™ 6600 Steam Emulating Indicator provides a cycle specific option for health care facilities who choose to utilize color change chemical indicators for pack monitoring.”
The Comply 6600 is a Class 6 CI or cycle specific indicator, which is designed to react to critical variables including time, temperature and the presence of steam for a specified sterilization cycle. For sterilization departments that run multiple exposure times a distinct Class 6 emulating indicator would be required to monitor each cycle. The Comply 6600 is ISO 11140-1:2005 compliant and conforms to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) recommendations.
“Chemical indicators have long been used as an internal pack monitoring device. We use chemical indicators to monitor our packs and biological indicators (BIs) to monitor our loads in accordance with ANSI / AAMI ST79 A2:2009 which recommends the use of BI’s weekly, preferably daily, and in every load containing an implantable device,” said David Jagrosse, CSPDT, CRCST, CS manager at Middlesex Hospital. “As a CS manager, I have come to trust and rely on 3M’s sterilization products to meet the needs of my sterilization department and the addition of the 6600 Emulating Indicator provides yet another option in their Comply line for monitoring the packs in my department.”
