Survey of Epidemiologists Reveals Support for Smallpox Vaccination

The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, Inc. (SHEA) recently conducted an email survey of its members to gauge opinion about smallpox vaccination.

Of the approximately 1,000 SHEA members to whom the survey announcement was emailed, 198 (20 percent) completed the survey. Overall, 111 (56 percent) supported the plan to vaccinate volunteer teams of healthcare workers, 53 (27 percent) were opposed, and 34 (17 percent) were undecided.
