WEST LAFAYETTE, IN-Self-study courses developed by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) and Purdue University enable healthcare workers to expand their knowledge, attain or maintain their IAHCSMM certification, and receive college credit. Correspondence courses include Central Service Technical Training, Supervision Principles: Leadership Strategies for Healthcare Facilities, and Healthcare Materiel Management Concepts. Successful completion of the Technical Training course earns participants seven continuing education units (CEUs) and qualifies them to take the IAHCSMM Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) exam with the requisite professional experience. Two college credits for the Purdue University course, HSCI 220C, Principles of Central Service Technology, can also be earned. The Supervision Principles course can earn students three credits for the Purdue course of the same name and qualifies them for IAHCSMM's Certification in Healthcare Leadership (CHL). Students in the Materiel Management class can earn 10 CEUs and be eligible to take the IAHCSMM exam for the Certification in Healthcare Materiel Management Concepts (CHMMC) designation. To take advantage of the college credit options, participants must be enrolled as a student at Purdue.
A scholarship program is available to encourage hospitals to train their entire CS staff. The CS Technician's Scholarship Program entitles hospitals to one free Technical Training Course for any 10 combinations of courses ordered.
