Premier healthcare alliance will host a Webcast, "Using the CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) to Meet the New CMS Reporting Requirement," on Aug. 25 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. EDT. The event is part of Premier's Advisor Live audioconference series, and there is no charge to participate.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has raised the bar for reporting healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) by tying hospitals annual payment update to submission of infection data via the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions secure, Web-based surveillance system. Beginning in January 2011, CMS is requiring hospitals to use the CDCs National Healthcare Safety Network, or NHSN, to report their incidences of central line-associated bloodstream infections, in order to receive a full Medicare payment update for 2013.
The Webcast will address deadlines for the new CMS policy, part of the inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS), as well as provide an overview of NHSN reporting and implementation steps for using NHSN. Presenters are Daniel Pollock, MD, surveillance branch chief of the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Danielle Lloyd, MPH, senior director of reimbursement policy for Premier healthcare alliance.
Materials for this session will be available for download at least 24 hours before the event on Premiers Advisor Live W ebsite at: http://www.premierinc.com/advisorlive/.
