Today is Thanksgiving Day in the United States, and Infection Control Today® (ICT®) reached out to its Editorial Advisory Board to learn what they are thankful for.

Lamphier, MPH, CIC: “I am thankful for loving family friends, God, and a wonderful home to come to every night.”

Heather Saunders, MPH, RN, CIC: "When I was a little girl, I dreamed of being an infectious disease detective. I was going to protect people from all of the dangerous diseases in the world. I was your average nerdy kid who carried a medical dictionary in her backpack that I would read for fun. But I also dreamed of being a writer someday—I wanted to tell stories, write poetry, and bring new ideas to life. And I had no idea how I was ever going to mix the two of those together. But here I am, an infection prevention consultant and a writer. So, this Thanksgiving, I'm grateful for the dreams that really do come true. I'm grateful for where I am and who I am today. And I'm grateful for the people in my life who encourage me to keep moving forward and go just a little bit farther."

Jenny Hayes, MSN, RN, CIC, CAIP, CASSPT: “I am thankful for the commitment to infection prevention offered by Infection Control Today.”

Sara Reese, PhD, MPH, CIC, FAPIC: “I’m thankful for the passionate, amazing, and brilliant IPs [infection preventionists] that are on my team!”

Saskia v Popescu, PHD, MPH, MA, CIC, FAPIC: “Thank YOU [the editor of ICT] for being so amazing—always grateful for you :).”

Alexandra Peters, PhD: “I’m grateful to help make the world just a slightly more equitable place.”

Henry G. Spratt, Jr, PhD: “I am thankful for the wonderful Public Health system we have available to us that is focused on helping all people avoid communicable diseases. By building on the shoulders of the early microbiologists, immunologists, and others, we now have a way to do something about infectious disease that our ancestors would have only linked to magic. Vaccines offer one of the best measures to protect humans from infectious disease and must remain the major tool in our arsenal against pathogens that are constantly evolving to use our bodies for growth and reproduction. Failure to continue to learn more and produce new vaccines against emerging pathogens would represent a major step backwards in the evolution of human thinking. Thus, my thanks go out to all of the Public Health officials the world over who work diligently to improve the human condition!”

Sharon Ward-Fore, MS, MT(ASCP), CIC, FAPIC:“I'm thankful to live in a time where so much science and technology exist to help improve lives.”

Rebecca Leach,MPH, BSN, RN, CIC: I am thankful for my colleagues and friends over the years who have helped me learn and grow, challenged me to always work towards being better, celebrated successes with me, and helped me through times that were dark. Without the many people I’ve worked with over the years, I would not be the infection preventionist I am today.”

Tommy Davis, PhD: “I am grateful for the chance to contribute to the success of health care professionals.”

Tabrikah Mohammed, BSN, MSC, TQM, CIC, CPHQ: “I am thankful to be part of ICT, making an impact and sharing knowledge with our fellow in the field.”

Priya Pandya-Orozco, MSN, RN, CIC: “I am SO thankful to work with AMAZING infection preventionists who are truly passionate about the work that they do. I am grateful and motivated to serve OUR COMPASSIONATE frontline teams and DEDICATED leaders who work tirelessly every day to ensure our patients are safe from harm.”

ICT is thankful for our Editorial Advisory Board members and, most especially, all our readers through the years!

Happy Thanksgiving!
