B. Braun Introduces Next Generation Safety-Engineered Catheter

B. Braun Medical Inc. (B. Braun) will attend INS 2012 with its latest development in safety-engineered medical devices, the Introcan Safety® 3 Closed IV Catheter. The new product includes the proven passive protection from needlestick injuries that has made B. Braun the U.S. leader in passive safety-engineered IV catheters. 

Advancements in the new Introcan Safety® 3s design include the unique multi-access blood control septum to protect healthcare professionals from blood exposure and an integrated stabilization platform that helps to improve catheter stability and minimize movement within the vessel.

Recent research (see footnote)  confirms passive safety engineered devices are most effective for needlestick injury prevention, says Tom Sutton, vice president of vascular access and IV systems for B. Braun Medical Inc. The Introcan Safety® 3 is designed to provide clinicians with not only an effective passive needlestick safety device, but also an added layer of safety and control with a bidirectional blood control septum to aid in the prevention of blood exposure each time the device is accessed.

The company will also host two Exhibitor Theater Sessions featuring Lynn Hadaway, MEd, RN, BC, CRNI, discussing Mucocutaneous Blood Exposure and Peripheral Catheters, Acknowledging the Risk, Documenting Occurrences. With more than 35 years of experience in infusion nursing and adult education, Hadaways expertise has been published on topics ranging from vascular access devices, anatomy and physiology, to infusion therapy and vascular access complication management. She is a champion for advanced practices and devices that protect healthcare professionals and patients. Sutton will follow Hadaways presentation to discuss New Product Technology from B. Braun.  

Sutton says conferences like INS 2012 are important. Members of INS are committed advocates that influence change to improve patient care, Sutton says. Presentations will be on Monday, April 30 at Exhibitor Theater A (Rio Pavilion, 200 Aisle) and at Exhibitor Theater B (Rio Pavilion, 600 Aisle) on Tuesday May 1. Both Exhibitor Theater sessions will run from 11:10 a.m. until noon. B.
