Medical device and system dangers such as clinical alarm hazards, data integrity failures in EHRs, and IV line mix-ups put patients in harm’s way every day; many even result in death. ECRI Institute, an independent nonprofit that researches best approaches to improving patient care, aims to reduce these risks with its publication of an annual Top 10 Health Technology Hazards list.
Because assessing how to prevent these hazards remains a challenge for many hospitals, ECRI Institute is hosting an educational web conference to walk them through the risks and help them minimize the dangers and improve patient safety.
“The Inside Scoop on the Top Ten Hazards List,” to be held on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. ET, will help hospitals turn the list into a set of preventive actions that can be successfully implemented.
This webinar is designed to help participants:
- Learn about the items on the list and why some remain top concerns year after year
- Reduce the risks of these hazards
- Implement key recommendations
- Find out how other hospitals have successfully tackled these issues
Speakers are:
- James P. Keller, Jr, MS, Vice President, Health Technology Evaluation and Safety, ECRI Institute
- Eric Sacks, BSEE, Director, Healthcare Product Alerts, Health Devices, ECRI Institute
- Rob Schluth, Sr. Project Officer, Health Devices, ECRI Institute
The moderator is Erin Sparnon, MEng, an engineering manager for health devices at ECRI Institute.
The interactive format of ECRI Institute’s webinar will provide ample time to communicate with the panel during the Q&A session and encourages participation. Participants will also be given a unique opportunity to suggest their own hazards for next year’s list.
This webinar is directed toward risk managers, hospital administrators, clinicians, clinical engineers and other healthcare technology management professionals, OR managers, information technology (IT) professionals, nurse managers, medical physicists, infection control practitioners, radiation oncology and medical imaging professionals, IV therapists, anesthesiologists, and materials managers.
Members of ECRI Institute’s Health Devices System™, Health Devices Gold™, and SELECTplus™ programs will receive this webinar at no cost as part of their membership with advance registration. Non-members can register for $249.
