Kathy Warye to Depart as APIC's CEO

Article

The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) announces the resignation of CEO Kathy Warye effective Oct. 31, 2010. Warye has led APIC since 2004.

In November, Warye will join BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), a leading global medical technology company, as Vice President, Infection Prevention. In this new role, Warye will work with thought leaders across the healthcare continuum, throughout the world, to advance best practice in the reduction of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).

During Waryes tenure, APIC doubled in size and became a key advisor to federal and state governments and more than 30 healthcare organizations. Warye spearheaded APIC Vision 2012 and the Associations Targeting Zero initiative, which provide guidance and education on the reduction of healthcare-associated infections. Additionally, Warye was recently ranked No. 46 among the 100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine.

"APIC members, staff and associates congratulate Kathy on this significant personal achievement," says APIC 2010 president Cathryn Murphy, RN, PhD, CIC. "Under her management, APIC has become a world leader in infection prevention. We are a stronger, more strategic and more successful organization for having had her lead our team. Her transition to a senior global leadership role within the healthcare industry demonstrates the respect with which APIC is held by key healthcare stakeholders around the world."

APICs board has actively begun a national search for a CEO and looks forward to the opportunity to welcome another high-level executive to their ongoing efforts to reduce preventable HAIs. APIC expects to complete this transition within a period of six months.
