TRU-D SmartUVC to Address Environmental Hygiene with UV Disinfection at AHE Conference

A team from TRU-D SmartUVC is scheduled to speak with health care professionals from around the country at the Association for the Healthcare Environment's EXCHANGE conference Sept. 22-24, 2014 at booth No. 413 in the conference's exhibit hall.

TRU-D leadership will be available to offer expert perspective on the role of UV disinfection as a best practice in environmental hygiene and the importance of implementing proven technology in prevention protocols. On the heels of global news surrounding the Ebola crisis in West Africa and the rapid spread of enterovirus across the U.S., health care leaders continue to create comprehensive prevention plans and outbreak protocols, adjusting to the potential for new diseases so that patients and hospital staff are protected from healthcare-associated infections. 

TRU-D, which works by generating UV light energy that modifies the DNA or RNA structure of an infectious cell, is the only portable UV disinfection system on the market with Sensor360 technology. The device's patented technology automatically calculates the time needed to react to room variables – such as size, geometry, surface reflectivity, and the amount and location of equipment in the room – and effectively delivers a lethal dose from a single, central location in the room, effectively eliminating lingering pathogens.

With TRU-D, healthcare leaders in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Saudi Arabia are eliminating pathogens like Ebola, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), influenza, norovirus, Clostridium difficile (C. diff.), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) in all types of healthcare settings, including isolation wards, patient rooms, operating rooms, surgical suites, intensive care units, emergency rooms, public areas and ambulances.

In a 2010 study, "Sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation of Lassa vaccinia, and Ebola viruses dried on surfaces," authors J.L. Sagripanti and C.D. Lytle cite that the highly virulent Zaire Ebola virus was used in this study to determine the inactivation kinetics produced by exposure to specific doses of UVC from low-pressure mercury vapor (germicidal) lamps that emit over 90 percent of their energy.

In August, TRU-D was deployed to two hospitals in Liberia to aid in the Ebola crisis. Dr. Jeffrey L. Deal, inventor of TRU-D, spent 10 days working with hospital staff to roll out the two robots in critical Ebola triage units. On Sept. 23, Deal will join the Center for Global Health and Diplomacy and the CDC Foundation as a panelist to discuss the Ebola crisis and major issues surrounding the outbreak during a special session, "Mobilizing a United Corporate and Communications Response to Contain Ebola." After the session, TRU-D will be a part of the NASDAQ closing bell, where 100 cents of every dollar donated during that time will be given to the CDC Foundation to support national and international organizations working to contain Ebola.
