AAMI to Offer Webinar on Steam Sterilization Process Failures

Article

The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) will offer the Webinar, Steam Sterilization Process Failures, on July 7, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. EDT.

Sterilization process failures can occur for any number of reasons: a malfunctioning sterilizer; user errors (e.g., incorrect packaging or loading procedures, incorrect cycle selection), poor steam quality, and others. If sterilization process failures are not addressed properly, potentially nonsterile items might be used on patients, placing them at risk. In this webinar, the causes of, investigation of, and remedies for sterilization process failures will be reviewed, based primarily on the guidance provided in ANSI/AAMI ST79:2010, Comprehensive guide to steam sterilization and sterility assurance in healthcare facilities, and related AAMI documents.

 The program will cover:

- How to use sterilization process monitors.

- How to investigate sterilization process failures.

- Actions to be taken to address sterilization process failures.

- How to prevent sterilization process failures.

The speaker is Rose E. Seavey, RN, MBA, CNOR, CRCST, president/CEO of Seavey Healthcare Consulting Inc., based in Arvada, Colo. Instruction is targeted to any department in hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, or clinics that produce sterile products for their patients.

The cost of the Webinar is $75 per registration for AAMI members and $99 per registration for non-members.  Registration entitles you to one telephone connection and one computer connection at one physical location. You also have permission to make copies of the written materials for anyone else at your location who might be listening to the program with you. International registrants may incur additional phone charges.

To register, call (800) 373-3174 to order with a credit card or visit the AAMI website to register online: http://www.aami.org/meetings/webinars/2011/0608.sterilization.html
