IRVINE, Calif. -- Advanced Sterilization Products (ASP), a division of Ethicon Inc., announces it is unveiling a new global initiative that will support the needs of healthcare professionals who are faced with infection prevention concerns. The STERRAD® Sterility Guide, a first-of-its-kind online tool, is designed to help healthcare professionals around the world quickly, easily and accurately determine which instruments can be sterilized in STERRAD® Systems.
As more and more medical devices come to market and infection control standards are monitored by industry groups, there is an acute need to provide accurate and up-to-date guidance to hospital staff on which devices can be sterilized in STERRAD® Systems. To fulfill this unmet need and demonstrate its commitment to following the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Standards and Recommended Practices, ASP took the lead and developed the STERRAD® Sterility Guide.
“I visit customers each week and I’m constantly surprised when I see the mounds of outdated paperwork and thick manuals they need to sift through in order to determine whether a device can be sterilized in a specific sterilizer,” said Barbara Trattler, RN, MPA, CNOR, CNA, director of clinical education at ASP. “Now, with the STERRAD® Sterility Guide, STERRAD® System customers can simply visit the STERRAD® Web site at their convenience in order to receive a timely and accurate answer – it’s so easy and the results are current.”
By following a few simple steps on the new, easy-to-use Web site, www.sterrad.com/sterilityguide, STERRAD® System customers can immediately obtain confirmation 24 hours a day, seven days a week as to whether a device can be sterilized in a STERRAD® System. All devices listed on the STERRAD® Sterility Guide have been approved for use in a STERRAD® System by the appropriate medical device manufacturer. And because ASP has partnered with medical device manufacturers around the world, new devices will be added on a regular basis.
