The Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) has initiated a job analysis survey to support its associate—Infection Prevention and Control (a-IPC) certification. This key effort seeks to confirm the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities of novice infection preventionists (IPs), helping to keep the a-IPC exam current and aligned with practical needs. By distinguishing the competencies of entry-level IPs from those with CIC credentials who are in early or mid-career stages, CBIC enhances professional development routes in infection prevention.

The online survey, open from July 8 to August 8, 2025, takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes to complete. Participants will have the chance to win one of 10 $50 Amazon gift cards, chosen at random.

CBIC, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2023, plays a critical role in safeguarding public health by offering rigorous certification programs that uphold standards of competency in infection prevention and control, advancing its vision of a world free from infections through demonstrated professional expertise.

The certifications from CBIC—a-IPC, CIC, LTC-CIP, AL-CIP, and CIC Emeritus—give employers and patients confidence that the IP has proven their knowledge in infection prevention and control.

Here is the announcement in full:

CBIC Launches Job Analysis Survey for a-IPC Certification

We are conducting a job analysis study for the associate – Infection Prevention and Control (a-IPC) certification.

This important study is designed to validate the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) essential to the work of novice Infection Preventionists .

The results of this study will directly inform updates to the a-IPC examination, ensuring it remains current, relevant, and reflective of real-world practice. The vision of the updated a-IPC certification is to create a clear differentiation between a novice IP and an early/mid-career IP, who holds the CIC credential.

As part of this initiative, CBIC has developed an online survey to gather input from those familiar with the field. We invite you to participate by completing the survey, which takes approximately 30–40 minutes. Your input is vital to the integrity of the certification process.

Survey window: July 8 – August 8, 2025
Estimated time: 30–40 minutes

As a token of appreciation, participants who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing to win one of several $50 Amazon gift cards.

Thank you for supporting CBIC’s Mission to provide pathways to demonstrate and maintain competence in infection prevention and control, and our Vision of a world free of infections through demonstrated professional competency.
