Expert Discusses New Guideline on Organ Transplant Safety in CDC Blog

Today on CDCs Safe Healthcare Blog, Dr. Matthew J. Kuehnert, director of CDCs Office of Blood, Organ, and Other Tissue Safety, discussesrecommendations to reduce transmission of HIV and hepatitis through solid organ transplantation, so that patients can be protected to the greatest extent possible from such unexpected transplant-transmitted infections.

He explains how the 2013 Public Health Service Guideline for Reducing Human Immunodeficiency Virus, Hepatitis B Virus and Hepatitis C Virus Transmission through Organ Transplantation will help patients and their doctors have the information they need to weigh risks and benefits of transplanting a particular organ.
