The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has extended the period during which STERIS may provide technical support for STERIS System 1 (SS1) users by six months, until Aug. 2, 2012. According to the FDA, the extension applies only to customers who have placed orders to replace all remaining SS1s in their possession and have provided a complete Certificate of Transition to STERIS.
STERIS will discontinue support for the SS1 in the U.S. on Feb. 2, 2012 for those customers who do not provide a completed Certificate of Transition. If a facility has not placed an order to replace all remaining SS1s, it must do so by Feb. 2, 2012 to continue receiving technical support for existing SS1s until Aug. 2, 2012. Â
