McKesson Automation Announces Specialty Lab Application for Materials Management

PITTSBURGH -- McKesson Automation Inc., a business unit of McKesson Corporation, will announce at next week's Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2003 Conference and Exhibition, a new application for its industry-leading SupplyScan product line. SupplyScan is currently installed at nearly 200 facilities throughout the United States. SupplyScan, which includes both an open bin and secure cabinet solution, is a bar code based automated point-of-use system for managing supplies and capturing information.

The newest application, SupplyScan Specialty Lab, is designed to provide inventory management for procedure-based areas within hospitals, such as, the cardiac catheterization lab and interventional radiology. SupplyScan Specialty Lab captures real-time supply, physician, staff, time and procedure data, enabling lab managers to report on resource utilization.

According to Caren Tobin, vice president of marketing and national accounts for McKesson Automation, "The SupplyScan Specialty Lab solution provides immediate access to inventory levels, as well as supply utilization and case- based information. The system also maintains a perpetual inventory for all supplies maintained in a department, thereby eliminating the need for manual supply order counting. We believe that by adding this functionality, we are providing the industry with the most comprehensive, easy to use solution available for specialty lab environments and materials management departments."
