Pharmacy OneSource Announces Webinar on National Patient Safety Goal 7

Article

Pharmacy OneSource will host a complimentary webinar, "Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goal 7: Prevention of Healthcare-Associated Infection, to be presented by Louise Kuhny, senior associate director of standards interpretation at the Joint Commission, on June 1, 2011 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. ET.

Kuhny will help accredited organizations better understand how surveyors will be evaluating compliance with NPSG 7, and will provide insight into strategies for reducing these serious infections. Kuhnys primary responsibility is assisting accredited organizations, surveyors, consumers and other individuals in the interpretation of Joint Commission standards. She is also a Joint Commission surveyor for the Hospital Accreditation Program. Kuhny has 20 years of nursing experience. Prior to joining the Joint Commission, she worked in hospital epidemiology, employee health and critical care at several Chicago area hospitals. Kuhny is certified in infection control by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and led an emergency services team for the Suburban Emergency Management Project (SEMP). Kuhny holds masters degrees in public health and business administration from Benedictine University.

The Joint Commission partners with its accredited organizations to promote patient safety and quality in United States healthcare facilities. One of their key national priorities is the reduction, and even elimination, of healthcare-associated infections that contribute significantly to patient morbidity and mortality. The Joint Commission chooses a subset of standards, known as National Patient Safety Goals, to put a spotlight on such issues of national significance. National Patient Safety Goal 7 focuses on hand hygiene, multidrug-resistant organisms, central line-associated bloodstream infections and surgical site infections.
