Stericycle, Inc.'s Steri-Safe Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) Training has received national acclaim as a Telly Awards winner for online education.
The Steri-Safe BBP Training is the cornerstone of Stericycle's Steri-Safe OSHA Compliance Program. Serving tens of thousands of various healthcare providers in the U.S., members of the Steri-Safe OSHA Compliance Program can now take an award-winning BBP Training as part of their compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (1910.1030).
With OSHA estimating that each year healthcare workers encounter needlesticks between 600,000 to 800,000 times in the workplace, a clear and effective BBP training program for healthcare facilities is needed.
The recent Telly Awards' announcement that Stericycle received the bronze award comes with the honor of being recognized among over 13,000 entries from around the world. Founded in 1978, the Telly Award is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online film and video.
According to the 2008 American Nursing Association (ANA) survey, 64 percent of nurses surveyed felt that bloodborne infections and needlestick injuries are their top safety concerns in the workplace. Small healthcare facilities like doctors' offices, dental practices, long-term care facilities – as well as thousands of other small businesses that have needles or sharps in the work place – struggle to interpret and comply with the BBP Standard.
This standard requires employers to provide training to identify the hazards of blood and other potentially infectious materials prior to any exposure and repeat the training on an annual basis. OSHA requires that 14 key areas be covered in a BBP Training. Understanding the intricacies of these 14 areas can be an overwhelming task for a busy healthcare facility.
The Steri-Safe BBP Training provides a convenient and compliant solution by incorporating all the detailed requirements of the BBP standard into an engaging and easy to follow video.
Sandra Adamson Fryhofer, MD, MACP, is the guest speaker for the online training. "Our mission is to help improve health and safety in the workplace. Knowledge helps healthcare workers stay focused the next time they use a needle or touch contaminated objects or soiled laundry," says Fryhofer, who is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, is a clinical associate professor of medicine at Emory University School of Medicine, and is in private practice in Atlanta.
"Stericycle has been a leader in providing OSHA compliance tools to healthcare providers and other small businesses for more than 10 years," said Robert A. Tangredi, corporate vice president of Stericycle. "Now such facilities are just one click away from this important training that can protect employees from on-the-job hazards."
By receiving a Telly Award, Stericycle's Bloodborne Pathogens Training stands among a distinguished group of the most respected corporate video departments, advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators and interactive agencies worldwide. Today, Steri-Safe OSHA Compliance Program Members can take advantage of this award-winning training as a resource to comply with the BBP Standard.
