STERIS Corporation's Education Portal Offers New Tools and Resources

Article

STERIS University, an educational portal of STERIS Corporation offering continuing education for healthcare industry professionals, announces the launch of its new learning management system. This updated education resource helps learners meet CMS or credentialing documentation requirements, and offers a number of new features, capabilities and benefits.

In response to feedback from our learners, we have worked to provide meaningful
improvements to this new learning management system, says Richard Schule, director of clinical education for STERIS. We hope current and future learners will find added value in the new capabilities, which were designed specifically for their use.

Once learners arrive on the landing page of STERIS University, they can register and set up their own My Learning page. Learners can create their unique account profile, and then begin building a personal archive of completed and in-progress courses (the Learning Management System allows you to stop partway through and continue later). On this same My Learning page, users can build a wish list of additional courses to take over time. New courses are added frequently. For example, three of the newest are: Now Playing Biofilms The Good, the Bad & the Ugly, Point of Use Reprocessing: Same Functions, Same Rules, and Ultrasonic Cleaning.

Another valuable benefit for users is the ability to track relevant CE credits and print out a history to document progress toward recertification. Learners can also store, access and print all certificates of completion at any time, for their departmental documentation and credentialing needs.

Courses are accredited by several certifying bodies, including the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM), the California Board of Nursing, the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. (CBSPD), and the American Board of Certification for Gastroenterology (ABCGN).

From the STERIS University landing page, visitors can also find out about STERIS-sponsored IAHCSMM scholarships, browse the calendar of events, check out the dozens of HPN Self-Study Series Contact-Hour continuing education lessons, or visit the DeMeo Legacy Series page to view videos and other sterile processing department improvement materials.

Four new written guides are now live on the STERIS University DeMeo Legacy series
page (http://university.steris.com/sterisu/index.cfm/michele-demeo-legacy-series/). The guides include workbook and notes areas, and can be printed and used for ongoing training and improvement initiatives in sterile processing departments. The topics Michele DeMeo addresses in these four guides include:

1. Leadership in Reprocessing: What Does It Take to Advance Yourself and the
Profession? An inspirational workbook for reprocessing professionals.
2. Michele DeMeo's Roadmap for Reprocessing Excellence. A useful guide to
developing a department-specific manual for any reprocessing department
3. Human factors in Reprocessing
This guide considers the importance of people in the functioning of a reprocessing
department and the science of ergonomics
4. A Reprocessing Professional's Consulting Guide with Templates
A useful assessment tool for a sterile reprocessing department
