Ties 1998

ATLANTA, GA-The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report for June 30, 2000 reports that 100 cases of measles were reported by state and local health departments to the CDC in 1999. This number ties the 1998 record low. The majority of the cases were linked to importation of the disease from other countries. Annually, over 800,000 children die from measles worldwide. High vaccination coverage rates have been attributed to the small number of measles cases originating in the US.
