The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) will offer the webinar, "Best Practices in Cleaning and Decontamination," on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. ET. This activity is supported by an unrestricted educational grant from Teleflex Medical.
The inadequate cleaning of reusable medical devices has become a news item. Short cuts are being taken in reprocessing reusable medical devices due to surgeon demands, lack of resources such as instruments, equipment, tools and time. All of these affect the ability of the facility to follow medical device manufacturer’s instructions for use and recommended practices. The result is that reusable medical devices that are not safe to use on patients. This webinar will discuss the best practices in cleaning and decontamination including how to monitor the effectiveness of the mechanical and manual cleaning process to improve patient safety.
After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Explain the importance of following evidence based published recommended practices and standards and discuss their relation to patient safety
- Describe the best practices for cleaning reusable medical devices
- Identify and describe the best practices for monitoring the effectiveness of the mechanical and manual cleaning process
