ABBOTT PARK, IL-Abbott Laboratories has signed a supply agreement for VanishPoint needlestick prevention products. VanishPoint products use patented automated retraction technology, which reduces exposure to contaminated needles.
Once a drug injection or blood draw is complete, the needle automatically retracts from the patient into the barrel of the device.
These products will become part of Abbott's Needlestick Prevention Systems product line.
Abbott already provides hospitals and healthcare facilities with VanishPoint blood collection tube holders under an 18-month agreement and VanishPoint retractable syringes as part of a two-year contract.
Abbott's products satisfy new OSHA prevention directives and the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act, which became law November 2000.
