ATLANTA-The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 61% of Americans are overweight.
More than 27% of the US adult population is obese, or 30 pounds or more over a healthy body weight.
These statistics rose sharply in the last ten years, leaving many at the CDC looking for methods for controlling American's growing waistline.
Thomas Wadden, director of the Weight and Eating Disorders Program at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia said overeating and obesity should be in the national spotlight, next to cigarette smoking, drunken driving, and AIDS.
He suggests that there should be a million-pound march on Washington to bring attention to this growing national public health problem.
