Patti G. Grota, PhD, RN, CNS-M-S, CIC will serve as clinical editor of the fourth edition of the APIC Text of Infection Control and Epidemiology. Published by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), the APIC Text serves as one of the most valuable tools for infection preventionists throughout the world.
An active member of the infection prevention and patient safety community for more than 20 years, Grota has published numerous abstracts and manuscripts and has lectured extensively on topics related to infection prevention and other adverse events. She is assistant professor of nursing at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas and was previously deputy chief of infection control for South Texas Veterans Healthcare System. In 2011 she received APICs New Investigator Award for her research on patient factors associated with adverse events of hospitalized veterans in infection control isolation. Grota serves on APICs Research Committee and is president of the San Antonio APIC chapter.
We are excited to have Patti lead our efforts to revise and improve this crucial patient safety resource, says Marilyn Hanchett, RN, MA, CPHQ, CIC, senior director of professional practice for APIC. Capitalizing on her knowledge and expertise, APIC will be able to deliver a greatly enhanced tool to help clinicians in any practice setting apply evidence-based strategies to prevent infection.
Last updated in 2009, the APIC Text contains more than 120 chapters, spans nearly 2,000 pages, and covers the latest infection prevention guidelines, research, technology and clinical standards. The fourth edition, planned for publication in summer 2014, represents a comprehensive revision. Visit www.apic.org/text for more information.
